Byron Waller is an Australian pilot who, in 2025 at the age of 15, became the youngest person in history to pilot a plane around the world. Diagnosed with Crohn's disease at 14 and in and out of hospital for most of his life, he flew the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian and Southern Oceans in a single-engine Sling TSi. He now flies for the Teen Pilot Foundation, a charity he founded to help young people living with chronic illness find a reason to look up.
- Crew. Byron was pilot-in-command on every leg, accompanied by a qualified safety pilot — the standard arrangement for an under-18 record attempt. We ask that “solo” not be used.
- The record. The circumnavigation is recorded by Earthrounders, the independent international register of round-the-world light aircraft flights (entry 710). We describe it as the youngest to complete a round-the-world flight on that register, and will happily supply the source link.
- Media reach. Coverage during the 2025 world flight is estimated at one billion people. That is an estimate compiled by the mission’s media team, not an audited figure, and we ask that it be attributed rather than stated as fact.
- Pole to Pole 2027 is in planning. Dates, aircraft, crew and route are not confirmed and should not be presented as set.
- Partner and sponsor names require the partner’s own approval before use in a story or on air.
- Photography and footage are supplied with captions and credit lines; please use them as supplied.
- Byron is a minor. Interviews with him are arranged through the media desk, with a parent or guardian present.
